Understanding Cancer and your pet
A cancer diagnosis can be devastating news for any pet owner. Your Vet has recommended a round of chemotherapy coupled with the possibility of some surgery. You love your pet and want the absolute best care that money can buy. This is a decision that thousands of pet owners are faced with each and every year. But is conventional therapy the right way to go? Moreover, is it safe, efficacious and a cure for cancer? Jim Miller, an independent pet cancer researcher and President of Diets for Life had this to say about the current state of affairs in treating malignant growths on our furry friends, “The conventional pet cancer industry is in the throes of a real conundrum these days.” Miller further added, “Vets are not being taught in medical school exactly what cancer really is. They study pathology, anatomy and learning how to diagnose a condition – all the while prescribing harsh drugs – in hopes of gaining a positive outcome Fortunately, this approach is rapidly being recognized as passé.” It just doesn’t work. It’s not efficacious; it does not work in tandem with the immune system and it – often times – ends up doing more harm that good.”
“Cancer is inflammation on the cellular level,” says Miller. There are (3) levels to cancer gaining a foothold in your pet’s body. The first step is initiation. This is when a toxin enters a healthy cell and starts the process. Initiation is not reversible, although certain conditions must be met before carcinogens can damage the healthy DNA of a cell with help of an enzyme that binds the toxin to the DNA, thus starting the process. Initiation is generally a quick process. That’s why the mantra that you are better off not getting cancer in the 1st place.is so prophetic. This is the first place. Phase 1.
The 2nd step is promotion. This is when the cells have been damaged and start to mutate over a long period of time. The net effect is that a solid mass tumor becomes visible when medical tests are done. Fortunately, promotion is reversible. Life style change intervention is paramount (a more holistic diet, fasting, detoxification, green juicing, heavy metal toxicity removal and stress management) to help secure a good outcome. But what about cancer remission? Isn’t cancer cured when the tumor shrinks after rounds of chemotherapy? “ Remission does not equal a cure,” adds Jim Miller. “Remission with the shrinkage of solid mass tumor only means that the daughter cells have been killed. More importantly, the stem cells are still present. That’s why the cancer almost always comes back – and with a vengeance.”
The 3rd phase is progression. This refers to higher levels of malignancy with the cancer spreading (metastasis) to other organs and parts of the body. The prognosis is often grim.” Progression is not supposed to be reversible, although I have seen many pets make a dramatic comeback and beat the odds after implementing life style intervention concepts, “ says Miller.
Diets for Life works with people to help raise awareness about what cancer really is and the best way to address it, should your pet be diagnosed. Cancer does not have to be a death sentence. There are several effective, holistically-based approaches you can take. The first step is accepting the fact that conventional therapies almost always fail. We’re here to help.
